George painting outdoors

George was born in Truns, Graubuenden, Switzerland in the middle of the mountainous area. After apprenticeship in Interior Design George studied drawing and painting at the College of Art in Zurich. From there he moved on to the Art Academy Koenig in Munich, West Germany where he studied many multiple media techniques, his favorite media being watercolor.

He then moved to Great Britain and painted coastal scenes with the backdrop of the English countryside. The British history of watercolor painters helped him to improve his technique.

George married in England his wife and fellow artist and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1967 and fell in love with the countryside, bordered by the great Rocky Mountains, he came full circle back to the hills of his childhood. His love for nature is clearly visible in his powerful expression in a simple stroke of his brush, where sky and mountain come together.

George is a fellow artist of the Alberta Society of Artists and a longtime active member of the Calgary Sketch Club.

George participated in numerous group shows, private exhibitions and one-man shows in Switzerland, Alberta, B.C. and throughout Canada. His work now hangs in many private and corporate collections.

A substansial donation of both George and Jutta's work was made to the Calgary Health Foundation in 2020. The work is on display at the Rockyview Hospital.
